How to Ask Are You Ok?
Following the wonderful feedback we received for our “Words Matter” webinars, and in recognition of October being Mental Health Awareness Month in Australia, we are pleased to offer a new, free webinar:
“How to Ask Are You Ok?” on Thursday 13 October at 4pm (AEDT).
In the one-hour session you will learn:
- About R U OK? Day
- The importance of connection for mental wellbeing
- Mental health statistics in Australia
- The signs someone may not be OK
- How to ask: “Are you OK?” and the four-step process.
The webinar will be delivered by R U OK? Day Community Ambassador Megan Barrow who will also share her lived experience of anxiety, depression, and agoraphobia. Megan volunteers her time as a speaker with both R U OK? and Beyond Blue and is dedicated to reducing the stigma around mental health issues and teaching the power of connections and conversations.
Voluntary Assisted Dying (VAD) PD Session
Translationz is hosting an online professional development session on Wednesday, 20th March, at 4:00 PM (AEST), running for 75 minutes (including Q&A).
The session will focus on the Voluntary Assisted Dying (VAD) program, an important and sensitive area for interpreters.

Words Matter
Mental Health and Disability through a Linguistic and Cultural Lens
Translationz proudly presents a mental-health-focused training entitled “Words Matter: Mental Health and Disability through a Linguistic and Cultural Lens”.
Session highlights include:
- Review of the Australian historical timeline of disability
- Reflection on cultural perceptual lens' contrasted with Australian attitudes
- Discussion of possible challenges within communities and how to successfully overcome
- Review current English language that does not cause offence when interpreting in a mental health or disability consult
