Everyone deserves to have the same access and opportunity to read publications, use websites, attend events, respond in emergency situations, and find out about government policies and programs. There are over 1 billion people living with a disability worldwide according to The World Bank. People with a disability have a right to also be able to experience web-based services, content, and other digital products.

GAAD

Global Accessibility Awareness Day is designed to get everyone talking, thinking and learning about digital access and inclusion for people with disabilities.

A few examples of accommodations that can be made to be more inclusive of people with disabilities include text descriptions for images, captioning for visual presentations, uncluttered screens, plain language, and consistent navigation.

Some services that Translationz provides in line with GAAD’s advice are captions, subtitling, PDF accessibility, transcription services, audio descriptions, and ALT text.

To get a bit of a perspective on what it’s like to be a print disabled reader, Translationz is supporting a challenge for everyone to go mouse-less for a part of the day. We’re encouraging you to unplug your mouse and only using your keyboard (tab/shift-tab, arrow keys, enter, spacebar, etc) to navigate and interact with content.

We also encourage you to visit the Global Accessibility Awareness Day website (https://globalaccessibilityawarenessday.org/ ) for more information about how this campaign got started and activities taking place worldwide.
