Selling Tobacco and E Cigarettes Factsheet

Client: Department of Health – Queensland

Client Background: The Queensland Department of Health is committed to providing services that ensure all Queenslanders achieve and maintain good health and well-being. The department focuses on various health initiatives and public health communications to promote a healthier community.

The original English factsheet outlined the new legislation that came into effect. The Queensland Government aimed to ensure that retailers selling smoking products fully understand the new regulations. To enhance comprehension, the information has been translated into multiple languages.

Challenge: The Queensland Department of Health needed to produce informative and accessible factsheets on selling tobacco and e-cigarettes, targeting a diverse multilingual population involved in selling these products. Additionally, the factsheets needed to inform of the new regulations regarding the sale of tobacco and e-cigarettes. The primary challenge was ensuring the translations were accurate, culturally relevant, and reach the target audience.

Solution: To address this challenge, the Queensland Department of Health partnered with Translationz. We provided professional translation services, ensuring accurate and culturally appropriate content. Our process included professional proofreading to guarantee high-quality documents and community checking to validate the translations with native speakers, ensuring local relevance. Additionally, Translationz used InDesign to complete the project, providing a professional and consistent presentation.

Results: The outcome of this project was the successful creation of 14 factsheets translated into 15 different languages. This initiative helped provide information to retailers selling tobacco products, informing them of important new legislation in the language they best understand. As a result, public awareness and understanding of the regulations regarding the sale of tobacco and e-cigarettes improved, strengthening the Department of Health's commitment to inclusivity and public health education.

Conclusion: This project highlights the importance of professional language services and working with an ISO 17100 certified language company to  deliver public health communications effectively. By delivering accurate and culturally sensitive translations, we helped the Queensland Department of Health reach a broader audience and effectively disseminate critical information.
